Rosemary
Salvia rosmarinus
A woody Mediterranean herb with narrow, needle-like leaves and a resinous fragrance.
Where it’s found
Rosemary is native to the Mediterranean. Its botanical name is Salvia rosmarinus, though plant tags and older books still commonly use Rosmarinus officinalis.
What to look for. Look for narrow leaves, darker above and paler below, on woody stems. The flowers are often pale blue or violet.
Common spellwork uses
Rosemary appears in modern protection work and has a long association with remembrance. A sprig can stand for a person, a place, or an ordinary detail you want to carry forward.
These are symbolic associations in modern practice.
Self-help and journaling
Write down a specific memory while you can still recall its details. A room, a voice, or something someone said can be enough.
Journal prompt. What small thing would I want a future version of me to remember?
Growing and storing it
Growing. Give it sun and sharply draining soil. In places with hard winters, container plants can come indoors to a bright spot. Let the surface of the potting mix start to dry between waterings.
Storing. Dry clean sprigs with airflow, then strip the leaves into a labeled jar when they’re fully dry. Store the jar out of bright light.
