Thyme
Thymus vulgaris
Common thyme, a low woody herb with tiny aromatic leaves and clusters of small flowers.
Where it’s found
Common thyme is a Mediterranean herb grown in sunny kitchen gardens, rock gardens, and containers. It does well in conditions that drain quickly.
What to look for. Small paired leaves grow close to thin, woody stems. Flowers often appear in pale pink or lilac clusters and attract pollinators.
Common spellwork uses
Thyme can represent courage and persistence in symbolic work. Its small leaves and sturdy growth make it a fitting reminder that a small action repeated steadily can count for a lot.
These are symbolic associations in modern practice.

Growing and storing it
Growing. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Clip leafy stems lightly and avoid cutting the whole plant back into old, bare wood.
Storing. Dry sprigs completely with good airflow, then remove the leaves from the stems. Keep dried thyme airtight and out of direct light.
