Where it’s found

Afghanistan is a major source of lapis lazuli, including the blue specimen photographed here. Lapis is a rock made up of several minerals, so a single piece can show blue, pale streaks, and gold-colored flecks.

What to look for. Lapis lazuli is a mixture of minerals, chiefly lazurite, calcite and pyrite. Its shades and flecks vary from piece to piece.

Common spellwork uses

Lapis lazuli is often chosen for work about truth, clear speech, and personal integrity. It can represent a promise to say what you mean or to listen carefully before deciding how to respond.

These are symbolic associations in modern crystal practice.

Self-help and journaling

If a conversation feels difficult, write the one thing you want the other person to understand. Then give yourself a separate line for what you hope to understand about them.

Journal prompt. What would I say if I could be both direct and kind?

How to care for it

Dust it with a soft cloth. Lapis can be porous, and some pieces are dyed or otherwise treated. Avoid steam, ultrasonic cleaning, and prolonged soaking.
