Where it’s found

Garnet often forms in metamorphic rocks, where heat and pressure change older minerals. Almandine, the variety shown here, is documented from localities such as Russell, Massachusetts, and Garnet Hill near Ely, Nevada.

What to look for. Almandine crystals can look dark burgundy or almost brown on the outside. Some show rounded, many-sided forms. Garnet is a mineral family, so color alone won’t tell you which member you have.

Common spellwork uses

Red garnet is often chosen for spellwork about resolve, commitment, and steady effort. It can stand for a promise you mean to keep, especially after the excitement of starting has worn off.

These are symbolic associations in modern crystal practice.

Self-help and journaling

Think of one commitment you still want to keep. Make it specific enough to fit a real day and small enough to return to after a missed one.

Journal prompt. What promise could I keep this week that would still matter a month from now?

How to care for it

Wipe a specimen with a soft cloth and protect crystal corners from knocks. GIA recommends warm soapy water for garnet gems. Keep steam away from garnet, and use extra care with fracture-filled or mounted stones.
