Calendula
Calendula officinalis
An annual with bright yellow to orange flower heads, also called pot marigold.
Where it’s found
Calendula is widely grown in cottage gardens, cutting beds, and containers. It flowers best in relatively cool weather and can slow down during intense summer heat.
What to look for. Look for broad, daisy-like flower heads above simple green leaves. Pot marigold belongs to Calendula, a different genus from the familiar bedding marigolds in Tagetes.
Common spellwork uses
Calendula is often used in modern spellwork about protection, optimism, and opportunity. Its sunny petals can symbolize something small that is worth tending while you wait for a bigger change.
These are symbolic associations in modern practice.
Self-help and journaling
Notice one part of the day that felt lighter than expected. Think about what made room for it and whether you can make that space again.
Journal prompt. What brought me a little joy that I might otherwise overlook?
Growing and storing it
Growing. Give it sun and soil that drains. Pick blooms regularly or remove spent flower heads if you want the plant to keep putting energy into new flowers.
Storing. Spread clean petals or flower heads in a thin layer to dry. Once completely dry, store them in a labeled jar away from light and moisture.
